Senior Data Scientist - Discovery (Machine Learning)

Location: United States, based at the headquarters in San Mateo, California. Office-based roles require onsite presence Tuesday through Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday.

Salary: $193,170–$263,670 USD annual base pay, plus potential equity compensation and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop machine learning solutions and ranking frameworks for Home, Search, Matchmaking, and Notifications.
• Drive ranking initiatives focused on long-term ecosystem health, user retention, and discovery of user-generated content.
• Advise Product and Engineering leaders through data analysis, deep-dive insights, and machine learning prototypes.
• Apply causal inference and advanced experimentation methods to measure platform initiatives affected by social and network effects.
• Build frameworks that scale hypothesis generation and increase experimentation velocity.
• Solve ambiguous marketplace problems, including balancing established high-performing experiences with new niche content.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, or another quantitative field.
• At least 4 years of experience in Data Science, Economics, or ML Engineering, or at least 2 years with a PhD.
• Experience with large-scale recommendation systems or user-generated content platforms.
• Strong proficiency in Python, R, SQL, Hive, Spark, and Airflow.
• Deep theoretical and practical understanding of deep learning.
• Ability to design experiments for two-sided marketplaces and social network effects, and communicate findings to executive audiences.
