Sr. Manager, Quality (Rare-Earth Magnets)

Location: Starts in Durham, NC and is expected to move to Benson, NC when the new facility is complete. The role requires regular presence on the production floor and must be performed in the United States by a U.S. Person due to access to export-controlled information or facilities.

What you will do

• Build and lead the Benson Quality organization across quality engineering, laboratory, metrology and inspection, and supplier quality.
• Establish the plant Quality Management System and lead ISO 9001 certification, with scalable systems for automotive and aerospace requirements.
• Build the analytical laboratory and production inspection capabilities, including equipment specifications, vendor installation, calibration, training, and acceptance.
• Transfer materials, processes, test methods, specifications, and lessons learned from R&D and pilot operations into repeatable commercial manufacturing controls.
• Lead process flows, PFMEAs, Control Plans, inspection and test plans, MSA, sampling strategies, reaction plans, APQP/PPAP, product qualification, and customer-specific quality deliverables.
• Own quality performance, customer complaints, containment, root-cause investigations, corrective actions, process capability, first-pass yield, defect reduction, supplier quality, and customer escapes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in manufacturing quality, materials or metallurgical engineering, or manufacturing operations, including 5+ years of leadership experience.
• Experience in materials-intensive or precision-parts manufacturing such as metals, powder metallurgy, automotive, aerospace, advanced materials, heat treatment, or machining.
• Experience spanning material and process quality, finished-part quality, dimensional inspection, metrology, machining, and precision manufacturing.
• Experience with PFMEAs, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, process capability, inspection plans, corrective actions, APQP/PPAP, drawings, and specifications.
• Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities.

Nice to have

• Greenfield manufacturing, major expansion, or new-product and process launch experience.
• Experience establishing a metallurgical or materials laboratory, dimensional metrology function, or production testing organization.
• Experience transferring new materials or processes from development or pilot scale into commercial manufacturing.
• Knowledge of IATF 16949, customer-specific requirements, GD&T, AS9100, magnetic materials, or powder metallurgy.
