Senior Software Engineer, Backend

Location: Onsite at the Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia office

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain backend services, APIs, and asynchronous workflows for merchant onboarding, seller operations, and e-commerce experiences.
• Own delivery from technical design through implementation, testing, rollout, monitoring, and rollback readiness.
• Improve the correctness, reliability, and observability of merchant profile, store configuration, catalog, and business-rule systems.
• Investigate production issues, identify root causes, and implement durable fixes across services, operational processes, and data flows.
• Partner with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate business requirements into pragmatic technical solutions.
• Improve engineering quality through code reviews, design discussions, refactoring, testing, monitoring, and thoughtful use of AI tools.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating backend systems in production.
• Strong proficiency in at least one backend language such as Go, Java, or Kotlin, with experience delivering maintainable, well-tested code.
• Hands-on experience designing APIs, data models, service integrations, and asynchronous workflows in distributed systems.
• Practical experience with databases, caching, messaging systems, observability tooling, and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience debugging live production issues, improving monitoring and alerts, and balancing reliability, delivery speed, and maintainability.
• Experience with e-commerce, marketplace, merchant, seller, catalog, or business platform products, plus sound judgment when applying AI tools to production engineering.
