TL;DR
Thermal Intern (Aerospace) (Satellite Thermal Systems): Designing, analyzing, building, and testing thermal solutions for satellite hardware with an accent on thermal analysis, hardware development, and thermal vacuum verification. Focus on balancing performance, resource use, risk, cost, and schedule while integrating heaters, heat pipes, coatings, and thermal interface materials into spacecraft systems.

Location: San Francisco, United States

Salary: $29 per hour

hirify.global designs, builds, and operates advanced communications satellites for high orbits from its headquarters in Northern California.

What you will do

  • Design, evaluate, build, and test satellite hardware and software with the engineering team.
  • Perform thermal analysis on propulsion components, batteries, high-powered electronics, RF components, mechanisms, and printed circuit boards.
  • Design, procure, and test thermal solutions, including heaters, heat pipes, thermal interface materials, and surface coatings.
  • Develop integration and assembly procedures that preserve thermal design intent.
  • Collaborate with integration and test engineers during thermal hardware installation.
  • Plan and conduct component- and spacecraft-level thermal vacuum testing and verification.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, applied mathematics, or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • Hands-on interest in hardware development and experience working in a fast-paced design and development environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, build, and test hardware from scratch.
  • U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or qualifying protected individual status is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with CAD.
  • Experience with thermal analysis software such as ANSYS or Thermal Desktop.
  • Experience with electronics systems design and packaging.
  • Projects or previous internships related to aerospace.
