Senior Backend Engineer (AI) (Python/LLM/RAG): Building async, production-grade backend systems for an AI-native platform serving millions of small businesses with an accent on multi-agent orchestration, provider-agnostic LLM integration, and retrieval-augmented generation. Focus on designing scalable APIs, evolving relational and vector data models, instrumenting production services, and owning reliable CI/CD delivery.

What you will do
- Design and scale asynchronous REST and WebSocket APIs in Python using FastAPI or similar frameworks.
- Build multi-agent workflows and integrate multiple LLM providers through a provider-agnostic layer.
- Develop Retrieval-Augmented Generation pipelines using vector stores such as pgvector, Chroma, or managed vector search.
- Design relational schemas, evolve data models, optimize queries, and manage migrations.
- Instrument services with structured logging, distributed tracing, and cost and latency metrics.
- Own CI/CD from testing and packaging through deployment, while establishing AI code review, provenance, licensing, and customer-data guardrails.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building production backend systems in Python, including asynchronous I/O.
- Experience designing and scaling REST or asynchronous APIs with dependency injection and clean service architecture.
- Hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs and building AI-ready backend systems.
- Practical experience with vector databases and Retrieval-Augmented Generation architectures.
- Strong relational database skills, including schema design, query optimization, and migrations.
- Experience owning end-to-end CI/CD and reviewing AI-generated code with attention to security, provenance, licensing, and customer-data boundaries.
Nice to have
- Experience with multi-agent orchestration frameworks such as Semantic Kernel or LangChain.
- Experience with LLM cost and observability tooling.
