Data Scientist – Edge AI & Embedded Systems

Location: On-site daily in Reston, Virginia, United States

Base pay in the Washington, DC metropolitan area: $140,000–$187,000–$205,700 annually. Other states may have different market-driven ranges.

What you will do

• Source, curate, clean, label, and analyze datasets from open-source repositories and operational sensor data.
• Train, fine-tune, and evaluate computer vision and large language models for mission-specific use cases.
• Design evaluation methods and metrics for model accuracy, latency, and reliability in real-world conditions.
• Optimize and deploy models on resource-constrained embedded hardware using quantization, pruning, and edge runtimes.
• Build offline-native data and machine learning pipelines in containerized Docker environments.
• Configure and troubleshoot Linux-based embedded systems, analyze RF and digital communication data, engage with customers, and document model performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in data science, computer science, computer engineering, statistics, electrical engineering, or a related technical field.
• At least five years of relevant experience.
• U.S. citizenship and an active TS/SCI security clearance with CI polygraph are required.
• Hands-on experience with AI/ML algorithms, computer vision models, LLMs, and model training and evaluation using PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Proficiency in Python, NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, and Bash scripting.
• Experience building applications in Linux and deploying offline-native applications with Docker.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting DoD or Intelligence Community customers on-site.
• Experience with edge optimization, including quantization, pruning, TensorRT, ONNX Runtime, or llama.cpp.
• Experience with embedded systems, single-board computers, hardware architectures, and low-level Linux troubleshooting.
• Experience with C, C++, Java, RF or signal data, software-defined radios, and digital communication systems.
• Experience with offline MLOps, open-source AI projects, or communicating complex technical topics to technical and non-technical audiences.
