Senior Data Architect, Scientific Data Platform

What you will do

• Define the current and target architecture for scientific data discovery and access, including service boundaries, contracts, and integration patterns.
• Own catalog records, GraphQL subgraph boundaries, data service views, and versioned event schemas under data governance rules.
• Design controlled, provenance-aware access paths for AI agents and other software consumers.
• Design catalog, search, and access pipelines, including indexing, backfill, recovery, and data freshness targets.
• Modernize legacy data sources while supporting on-premises, hybrid, and cloud deployments.
• Work with engineering and stakeholders through implementation, architecture reviews, decision records, diagrams, and proofs of concept.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or architecture involving distributed systems, service boundaries, APIs, and event-driven integration.
• Production architecture experience with data catalogs, search and indexing, API or federated-query access layers, or scientific, laboratory, or regulated applications.
• Strong SQL skills and the ability to read execution plans in PostgreSQL or SQL Server.
• Experience building and operating data pipelines, including recovery and backfill.
• Ability to read production code in C#, Java, TypeScript, or a similar typed language and build proofs of concept.
• Daily use of AI tools for architecture and data work, with the ability to explain how outputs are delegated and verified.

Nice to have

• Experience delivering APIs, views, or datasets consumed by other applications.
• Laboratory informatics or regulated life sciences experience, including data integrity and audit trail expectations.
• Experience with architecture decision records, C4 diagrams, interface contracts, and cloud integration patterns.
