Research Associate (In Situ Transmission Electron Microscopy of Electrocatalytic Systems)

Location: Manchester, United Kingdom. The role involves working in the hirify.global electron microscopy centre and the National Graphene Institute. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK; this role is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship.

What you will do

• Characterise beam-sensitive electrocatalytic materials using STEM and TEM techniques.
• Perform imaging, diffraction, and spectroscopy across the hirify.global microscope facilities.
• Acquire 4D-STEM and STEM-EELS data.
• Support the development of in-situ transmission electron microscopy for real-time visualisation of electrocatalysts under operating conditions.
• Use the Protochips electrochemical Poseidon holder for in-situ electrochemical microscopy.
• Process and simulate TEM/STEM data using open-source Python packages.

Requirements

• Extensive experience with STEM characterisation of electron beam-sensitive materials.
• Experience with imaging, diffraction, spectroscopy, 4D-STEM, and STEM-EELS data acquisition.
• Experience in TEM/STEM image processing and simulation.
• Experience with Python packages such as HyperSpy, pyxem, ASE, and abTEM.
• Experience using the Protochips electrochemical Poseidon holder for electrochemistry.
• Right to work in the United Kingdom is required; Skilled Worker visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with the FEI Talos F200A and FEI Titan “ChemiSTEM” G2 80–200 microscopes.
