Senior Database Administrator (ClickHouse)

Location: Remote/Portugal; fully remote setup. Relocation support is available to hubs in Armenia, Georgia, Serbia, Portugal, Poland, and Spain.

What you will do

• Own the reliability, performance, security, and lifecycle of production ClickHouse clusters running on Kubernetes and managed services.
• Design architecture and tooling for dozens of multi-node clusters, including infrastructure-as-code provisioning, configuration, scaling, upgrades, and migrations.
• Build monitoring and alerting, manage backups and disaster recovery, and regularly test restores.
• Plan database capacity, control infrastructure costs, and automate routine database requests.
• Support developers, DevOps engineers, DBAs, and engineering leadership with schema design, data ingestion, and query performance.
• Handle production emergencies, lead database root-cause analysis, contribute to postmortems, and maintain documentation and runbooks.

Requirements

• Senior-level, production experience administering ClickHouse, including storage, merges, replication, querying, SQL optimization, and schema design.
• Experience designing automation for large fleets of databases and running stateful workloads on Kubernetes in production.
• Production experience with a Kubernetes database operator and hands-on experience with upgrades, backup and restore, and large-dataset migrations.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across queries, schemas, Kubernetes, Linux, storage, and networking.
• Experience with observability, database security, infrastructure as code, automation scripting or programming, and major cloud platforms.
• Clear written and spoken communication with engineers and leadership, including taking incidents from investigation through production fixes.

Nice to have

• Contributions to the source code of a Kubernetes database operator.
• Practical use of AI tools for database observability or operational automation.
• Experience in highly regulated environments.
• Kubernetes or cloud certifications.
