High Performance Computing (HPC) AI Engineer

Location: United States; role based at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine HPC Facility.

Salary: $101,493.51–$140,000 annually.

What you will do

• Deploy, manage, and optimize HPC development tools and software stacks for machine learning, deep learning, and data science.
• Integrate HPC systems with enterprise AI frameworks and manage scalable AI model hosting and serving environments.
• Benchmark, troubleshoot, and optimize AI application performance across supercomputers, GPU clusters, and other hardware.
• Deliver training sessions, tutorials, and workshops on AI development, deployment, and optimization in HPC environments.
• Document AI development workflows, tools, and best practices while collaborating with researchers, principal investigators, and software engineers.
• Monitor job queues and system performance, optimize resource allocation, and advise researchers on computational needs and project execution.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience.
• Experience with parallel storage engineering, systems administration, large-scale parallel file systems, and storage tiering.
• Experience with SMB and NFS network storage protocols.
• Advanced knowledge of Linux/UNIX, Bash scripting, and scripting languages such as Python or Lua.
• Extensive knowledge of Ethernet, InfiniBand, and Fibre Channel networking.
• Effective communication with researchers, technical staff, and organizational stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting AI-driven research computing in biomedical, life sciences, or clinical environments.
• Familiarity with large language models, fine-tuning, and retrieval-augmented generation pipelines.
• Knowledge of security practices for handling protected health information when training or hosting models.
