System Software Engineer

Location: Hybrid in Taiwan, with up to a few days per week in the XinYi District office in Taipei; includes up to 10% local and international travel to partners and the US headquarters.

hirify.global is an early-stage consumer electronics startup building repairable, upgradeable, customizable laptops and an ecosystem of modular parts.

What you will do

• Develop application software, system drivers, firmware, and embedded controller, power delivery, and BIOS features.
• Manage and review firmware and software work delivered by manufacturing partners.
• Create validation plans and bring up, debug, and validate systems during new product introduction.
• Evaluate new technologies and software hirify.globals to improve product capabilities.
• Ensure developed projects can be built through CI and validated reliably.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of firmware development and software engineering experience for electronics products.
• Experience with cross-platform application hirify.globals and x86 and ARM platforms.
• Experience developing software projects end to end.
• Experience using AI development tools to accelerate workflows and learning new codebases independently.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with experience collaborating across time zones and with engineers, program managers, and JDM/ODM partners.

Nice to have

• Rust experience for system-level or firmware programming.
• Embedded firmware development in C and scripting in Python or similar languages.
• Experience with open-source firmware or RTOS platforms such as Zephyr, FreeRTOS, coreboot, Tianocore, or CMSIS.
• Experience with Windows or Linux system software, drivers, automation, debugging, diagnostics, Embedded Controller, or Host Power Delivery firmware.
• Experience in an early-stage hardware or electronics startup, with open-source projects, UI/UX collaboration, or remote international teams.
