Senior Database Administrator (MongoDB)

What you will do

• Operate production MongoDB clusters running on Kubernetes across multiple regions and clouds.
• Monitor cluster health, performance, replication, and storage, and resolve availability, latency, and consistency issues.
• Automate user management, scaling, upgrades, backup restores, observability, and access control.
• Implement point-in-time recovery, snapshots, cross-region backups, restore validation, and disaster recovery exercises.
• Support engineering teams with schema design, indexing, query performance, data modeling, and shard key design.
• Document runbooks and standards, participate in on-call rotations, and coordinate incident response with SRE, application engineering, security, and compliance teams.

Requirements

• Proven experience managing MongoDB in production environments at scale.
• Strong knowledge of replica sets, sharding, WiredTiger, oplogs, and journaling.
• Experience operating MongoDB in cloud or containerized environments, preferably Kubernetes.
• Automation and scripting skills with Bash, Python, or Go.
• Experience with MongoDB CLI tools, Atlas APIs, backup and restore tooling, and observability platforms such as Datadog, Prometheus, or Grafana.
• Strong communication, documentation, reliability, and incident-response skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with GitOps, Terraform, Helm, or ArgoCD.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or DynamoDB.
• Familiarity with SOX or SOC 2 compliance frameworks.
• Contributions to open-source MongoDB tooling or community forums.
