TL;DR
Triage Nurse-Medical Oncology Full-time Days (Medical Oncology/Nursing): Providing clinical triage, patient education, medication administration, and care coordination for adult and geriatric oncology patients with an accent on symptom assessment, communication, and safe clinical workflows. Focus on prioritizing telephone and electronic requests, coordinating provider visits and emergency transfers, documenting care in electronic medical records, and maintaining OSHA and CDC standards.

Location: Lake Forest Hospital Cancer Center, 1000 N. Westmoreland, Lake Forest, Illinois, United States. Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, day shift.

Salary: USD 34.50–55.20 per hour

What you will do

  • Provide clinical triage for incoming telephone calls and electronic messages, assess symptom acuity, prioritize requests, and involve providers as needed.
  • Document patient communications in the electronic medical record and schedule provider visits based on telephone assessments.
  • Coordinate specialist appointments, emergency transfers, hospital transfers, required paperwork, and related communications.
  • Administer medications and treatments, including intravenous and injectable medications, in accordance with nursing standards and provider orders.
  • Educate patients and staff, support clinical staff coverage and onboarding, and participate in quality improvement and process improvement activities.
  • Maintain exam rooms, equipment, and patient care practices in accordance with OSHA and CDC guidelines.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited registered nurse program.
  • Current Registered Nurse license issued by the State of Illinois.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a hospital or outpatient setting.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR certification.
  • Strong clinical assessment, patient communication, customer service, and teamwork skills.

Nice to have

  • BSN degree.
  • Specialty certification.
  • At least 5 years of hospital or outpatient experience.
  • Spanish-speaking ability.
