Backend Engineer (Scala)

Location: Hybrid working model at the centrally located office in Kamppi, Helsinki, Finland

What you will do

• Drive discovery, design, development, deployment, operation, monitoring, and improvement of Tier 1 software services.
• Build high-traffic content selection systems combining machine learning personalization and business-driven decisions.
• Develop and maintain solutions using Scala, Finch, React, DynamoDB, Redis, PostgreSQL, and Kubernetes.
• Specify and build production RESTful APIs and contribute to microservices architecture.
• Participate in planning, technical design documentation, code reviews, testing, and lean development rituals.
• Collaborate with product management, stakeholders, downstream teams, and colleagues across locations.

Requirements

• Production experience with functional and/or JVM languages; Scala experience is preferred, with support for learning Scala.
• Experience specifying and building high-traffic production RESTful APIs.
• Ability and motivation to learn new skills.
• Collaborative approach, willingness to learn from peers, and interest in helping others grow.
• Availability for a hybrid working model in Helsinki.

Nice to have

• Experience with microservices, AWS, or frontend technologies.
