Senior Cryptocurrency Intelligence Scientist (AI)

Location: Washington, D.C.; hybrid working. The role may be performed from almost anywhere for up to 90 days per year.

What you will do

• Develop expert attribution and threat-characterisation methods using identity signals, behavioural patterns, transaction rhythms, routing choices, bridge usage, and smart contract interactions.
• Lead end-to-end research and investigations, from scoping and data collection to written reports and presentations for clients, partners, and internal stakeholders.
• Assess attribution coverage, identify material intelligence gaps, and lead prioritised remediation projects.
• Build processes and tooling for heuristic development, including documentation, peer review, and monitoring for drift or degradation.
• Translate cryptocurrency trends, criminal typologies, and obfuscation techniques into actionable intelligence priorities and audience-specific reports, briefings, and content.
• Collaborate with Intelligence, Product, Engineering, and Professional Services while mentoring junior colleagues.

Requirements

• Senior-level experience in cryptocurrency intelligence, blockchain analytics, data science, threat intelligence, or a related field.
• Strong data science fundamentals with working knowledge of SQL and Python for independent analytical and automation workflows.
• Expert proficiency across Layer 1 and Layer 2 blockchains, including direct experience with cross-chain bridging and self-custodying cryptocurrency.
• Experience with OSINT, structured analytic techniques, cognitive-bias mitigation, uncertainty assessment, and clear communication for technical and executive audiences.
• Previous UK or US security clearance, or the ability to obtain it, is required.
• AI fluency is essential, including applying AI to data processing, pattern identification, heuristic development, and drafting intelligence outputs.

Nice to have

• Postgraduate qualification in a technical or intelligence-adjacent discipline.
• Experience in law enforcement, government, academic research, or other formal intelligence settings.
• Experience with complex transaction tracing, demixing, cross-chain attribution, or public-sector clients.
• Familiarity with thefts, scams, ransomware, nation-state activity, terrorism financing, and sanctions evasion.
