Production Engineer (12 month fixed-term contract)

Location: Unanderra NSW 2526, Australia; onsite at the Orrcon Steel mill

What you will do

• Analyse production data to identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, and operational efficiency.
• Investigate production issues and implement practical, sustainable engineering solutions.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives, process trials, and equipment upgrades using structured problem-solving tools such as root cause analysis and FMEA.
• Assist with engineering projects from concept and design through commissioning and handover.
• Collaborate with production, maintenance, engineering teams, contractors, suppliers, and customers.
• Maintain operating procedures, drawings, equipment information, and project documentation.

Requirements

• Mechanical engineering degree.
• Experience applying engineering knowledge in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Track record of mechanical engineering design, including detailed drawings and calculations.
• General knowledge of Inventor, AutoCAD, and other engineering analysis packages.
• Experience with Lean, competitive manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, TPS, or similar manufacturing systems.
• Understanding of FMEA, HAZOP, root cause analysis, strong safety practices, and collaborative engineering work.
