Senior Software Engineer (Data Infrastructure/RDBMS)

Location: Remote in North America, with the role listed for the United States; primary timezone overlap across US and Canada working hours. The role includes an on-call rotation approximately once every 15 days; the Canada portion is pending provincial compliance confirmation.

Salary: $200,000–$220,000 US base salary per year, with possible equity-plan participation. Compensation varies by geography outside the United States.

What you will do

• Develop, operate, and scale petabyte-scale PostgreSQL/Citus infrastructure supporting customer-facing APIs.
• Improve query performance, index design, schema efficiency, availability, and infrastructure costs.
• Use AI-assisted analysis with tools such as pganalyze and Claude to identify, validate, and ship database optimizations.
• Build agentic automation for pgbouncer provisioning, disk scaling, blue-green deployments, and database-change validation.
• Manage CDC pipelines using PeerDB, Fivetran, Debezium, Datastream, or Airbyte, and debug replication failures.
• Migrate workloads from first-generation infrastructure and develop AI-native runbooks and internal tooling.

Requirements

• 5–8 years of experience building and operating production PostgreSQL, including distributed variants such as Citus, Aurora, or AlloyDB.
• Deep SQL optimization experience covering explain plans, CTEs, window functions, partitioning, index design, and distributed query-planner behavior.
• Hands-on experience with CDC tools and database profiling using pganalyze or an equivalent platform.
• Production automation experience in Python or Go, including automation of routine database operations.
• Daily use of AI coding and analysis tools such as Claude or Copilot, with sound judgment when evaluating AI output.
• Availability for an on-call rotation approximately once every 15 days, subject to regional compliance review for Canada.

Nice to have

• PostgreSQL extension development experience.
• Experience delivering measurable AI-assisted cost or performance improvements in production database systems.
