Senior Publisher (Computer Science Journals)

Location: Hybrid working in New York or London

Salary: US annualized base salary of $95,000–$110,000

What you will do

• Lead the strategic development, growth, positioning, and long-term performance of a portfolio of Computer Science journals.
• Create journal development plans using performance data, market intelligence, and community feedback.
• Identify growth opportunities through emerging research areas, thematic collections, commissioning, Editorial Board development, and new journal or product initiatives.
• Build relationships with Editors-in-Chief, Editorial Board Members, researchers, and other stakeholders, and facilitate editorial meetings.
• Monitor submissions, publications, transfers, peer-review performance, turnaround times, and developments across the research and publishing landscape.
• Collaborate across departments on workflows, publication ethics, research integrity, budgeting, forecasting, contracts, and portfolio initiatives.

Requirements

• Degree-level education or equivalent relevant professional experience.
• Proven experience managing and developing scholarly journals in academic publishing.
• Strong knowledge of scholarly publishing, including hybrid and fully open access models.
• Experience with peer review, editorial policies, publication ethics, and research integrity.
• Strong analytical, communication, influencing, organizational, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently and collaboratively, mentor colleagues, and travel domestically and internationally as required.

Nice to have

• Academic, research, or publishing experience in Computer Science.
• Practical experience developing hybrid and fully open access journals.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, contract negotiations, or other commercial aspects of journal publishing.
