Principal Engineer (Identity & Privacy)

What you will do

• Define and communicate the long-term technical strategy and roadmap for identity, consent and privacy engineering.
• Shape purpose-scoped identifiers and consent-aware data processing across sessions, tracking, advertising, accounts and derived identifiers.
• Design how identity and consent state flows across web and app surfaces, backend services, event streams, data pipelines and downstream consumers.
• Translate privacy principles and legal guidance into reusable engineering patterns, platform controls and measurable standards for retention, deletion, masking, access control and auditability.
• Lead large-scale initiatives involving consent platforms, privacy-safe experimentation, data retention and deletion, and traveller-trust features.
• Partner with Engineering, Product, Legal, Privacy, Security, Data Governance, Data Science, Marketing, Ads and Analytics while coaching engineers and improving engineering standards.

Requirements

• Experience translating privacy and data-protection requirements, including GDPR, PECR, CCPA/CPRA or equivalent frameworks, into engineering decisions.
• Experience designing, building and operating large-scale distributed systems across identity, data platforms, consent, authentication, advertising technology or customer data infrastructure.
• Experience leading significant technical change across multiple teams without direct line authority.
• Strong technical judgement across product value, traveller trust, privacy, reliability and cost considerations.
• Ability to reason across client surfaces, backend services, event streams, data products, ML features, analytics, partner exports and operational tooling.
• Ability to work in a hybrid setup from London, Glasgow or Edinburgh.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with privacy and consent technologies, experimentation, personalisation or advertising measurement.
• Experience with Databricks, OpenTelemetry or SQL.
• Practical experience using AI tools to improve engineering work.
