Engineering Manager - Energy

Location: London, United Kingdom; remote-first working with the option to work abroad for up to three weeks twice per tax year.

What you will do

• Co-lead an autonomous energy squad with a Product Manager in collaboration with UX and Data colleagues.
• Own technical decisions, design discussions, architecture validation, and alignment with engineering strategy.
• Set objectives and prioritisation, co-lead quarterly and annual planning, and communicate progress against OKRs and KPIs.
• Drive security, service-level objectives, on-call coverage, operational excellence, and regular metrics reviews.
• Manage, coach, onboard, and develop engineers while supporting performance and promotion reviews.
• Represent the squad to senior leadership and coordinate with stakeholders across the business.

Requirements

• Knowledge of gRPC, GraphQL, React, Kafka, Docker, and Kubernetes; experience with Go is preferred.
• Experience leading technical design processes, evaluating trade-offs, documenting decisions, and validating architecture against edge cases.
• Experience defining team goals, managing competing priorities, identifying risks, and improving delivery predictability.
• Experience with security practices, SLOs, operational excellence, and engineering metrics.
• Experience managing, coaching, developing, and supporting the career growth of engineers.
• Experience working with complex, multi-variant domains such as billing, pricing, identity, or claims.

Nice to have

• Experience with Go.
• Hands-on experience with AI development tools and AI-assisted software development.
