Integrated Photonics Engineer (Photonics)

Location: Arlington, VA, United States; on-site five days per week

Salary: $150,000–$220,000 base per year

Early-stage photonics company developing heterogeneous photonic integrated circuits and optical microsystems for communications, sensing, quantum, and national-security applications.

What you will do

• Design active and passive photonic devices and simulate device and circuit performance.
• Create and review PIC layouts using foundry PDKs, DRCs, and tapeout flows.
• Own the PIC development cycle from design and layout through tapeout, characterization, and iteration.
• Characterize fabricated devices and automate measurements and analysis with Python.
• Use test results to improve subsequent designs.
• Collaborate across fabrication, packaging, and electronics.

Requirements

• Personally owned or led a PIC tapeout.
• Taken photonic devices from design through experimental measurement.
• Hands-on experience with Lumerical.
• Experience with KLayout, GDSFactory, Virtuoso, or similar layout tools.
• Experience working with commercial foundries and PDKs.
• Experience building or operating optical characterization setups and working independently across the complete PIC workflow.

Nice to have

• Experience with silicon, SiN, TFLN, III-V, or other heterogeneous photonic platforms.
• High-speed optical testing experience.
• Photonic packaging experience.
