Senior Backend Engineer (Java)

Remote. Preference for candidates based in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, or Eastern European/Central Asian regions. Must be flexible to collaborate with teams and customers in US time zones.

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to build and improve products for the US Vehicle Transportation Industry.

Serves carriers and shippers in the vehicle transportation industry. We operate as a 100% distributed team focused on transparency and solving complex problems.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain backend systems using Java, ensuring clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions, investigate issues, and identify performance bottlenecks.
• Lead the technical design process and participate in code reviews to ensure quality and knowledge sharing.
• Optimize backend systems for performance, scalability, and reliability while ensuring data security.
• Document, deploy, and operate APIs and internal interfaces.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer
• 3+ years of experience owning production services (development, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting).
• Advanced English
• Strong expertise in Java 21
• Proficiency in Spring Boot 3/4 framework
• Heavy hands-on experience with JPA/Hibernate ORM and plain SQL
• Flexible to collaborate with teams and customers in US time zones
• Experience with coding AI agents (Cursor, Codex, Claude code, etc.)
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects and adapt to new frameworks

Nice to have

• Proficiency in designing and running distributed systems (microservices) in production.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (GCP/AWS), message brokers, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Python (Django/FastAPI), Kubernetes, and Elasticsearch.
• Knowledge of LLM models and AI integration approaches.
• Experience mentoring or coaching junior engineers.
