Staff Data Scientist (Fintech)

Location: Mountain View, California or San Diego, California, United States

Base pay: $194,000–$262,500 per year in Mountain View.

What you will do

• Evaluate and prioritize emerging acquisition, engagement, retention, and customer-growth opportunities for TurboTax.
• Define measurement strategies, leading indicators, learning milestones, success criteria, and scaling pathways for zero-to-one initiatives.
• Shape experimentation roadmaps, convert hypotheses into measurable tests, interpret results, and recommend next actions.
• Analyze customer lifecycle behavior before, during, and after tax season to identify growth and long-term value opportunities.
• Create visualizations, dashboards, performance frameworks, and executive presentations that clarify complex analytical narratives.
• Partner with senior leaders across Product, Marketing, Expert Services, and Operations while mentoring data scientists and analysts.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in data science, analytics, business intelligence, or a related field.
• Experience shaping strategy and influencing executive decision-making through data, particularly in ambiguous or zero-to-one environments.
• Strong expertise in experimentation, performance measurement, customer analytics, and causal or decision-oriented analysis.
• Advanced SQL proficiency and experience using Python or R for analysis, modeling, and automation.
• Experience with Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or similar data visualization platforms.
• Strong business acumen, communication, storytelling, cross-functional leadership, and pragmatic decision-making skills.
