Principal Data Architect (SAP/Databricks)

Location: Santa Clara, California, United States. Full-time onsite role with approximately 10% travel. Relocation eligible.

Salary: $198,000–$272,500 per year, plus potential bonus and stock awards.

What you will do

• Own the target-state enterprise data architecture, reference architectures, design patterns, standards, and architecture approval gates.
• Lead architecture for complex, multi-year data transformation programs, including migration strategy, sequencing, cutover, and decommissioning.
• Direct the data architecture for SAP S/4 transformation, including data models, master data, legacy-data harmonization, and downstream analytics consumption.
• Define and architect governed enterprise data products with data contracts, certification criteria, quality and freshness SLAs, versioning, and deprecation processes.
• Design the enterprise semantic layer with conformed dimensions and certified metrics for BI, self-service analytics, embedded analytics, and agentic AI.
• Set technical direction for delivery teams and partners, lead vendor evaluations, mentor technical staff, and communicate architectural tradeoffs to senior stakeholders.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience with SAP Business Data Cloud, Datasphere modeling, replication and transformation flows, and BDC-to-lakehouse integration with Databricks.
• Proficiency in SAP ABAP, including OO-ABAP, CDS Views, AMDP, SQLScript, and HANA-native procedures.
• Experience with SQL, Python, SAP BTP extensibility, RAP, CAP, BDC data products, Delta Sharing, and governed data services or APIs.
• Hands-on Databricks experience with Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, PySpark or Spark SQL, Delta Live Tables or Lakeflow, and production pipeline orchestration.
• Experience designing semantic layers, governed metrics, access controls, lineage, data quality instrumentation, and security-by-design practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with demonstrated ability to influence across organizational boundaries without direct reporting authority.

Nice to have

• Experience in semiconductor, high-tech, or complex global manufacturing.
• Experience architecting governed enterprise data access for AI and agentic systems.
• Knowledge of data security posture management, classification, privacy-by-design, and regulated-enterprise controls.
• Experience managing systems integrator delivery quality and technical acceptance criteria.
• Advanced degree in a relevant technical discipline.
