TL;DR
Backend Software Engineer (Golang) (cloud-based drone operations platform): Building scalable backend services and REST/gRPC APIs for AirHub® Portal with an accent on distributed systems, geospatial workflows, and mission-critical drone operations. Focus on designing cloud-native services, improving reliability and observability, and solving complex scalability, security, and performance challenges across the full software development lifecycle.
Location: US Remote, 100% Remote; Detroit, Michigan

What you will do
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs for AirHub® Portal.
- Build cloud-native applications and distributed systems supporting drone operations, geospatial workflows, and customer-facing capabilities.
- Own complex features from architecture and implementation through deployment, monitoring, optimization, and iteration.
- Design RESTful and gRPC APIs and contribute to technical decisions involving scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability.
- Improve testing, observability, performance, logging, and operational excellence.
- Collaborate with Platform, Data, Product, Infrastructure, UAS, and customer-facing teams while contributing to code reviews, mentoring, and engineering planning.
Requirements
- 5–7+ years of professional software engineering experience with production SaaS applications, APIs, or cloud-based platforms.
- Strong professional experience with Go (Golang), RESTful and/or gRPC APIs, distributed systems, and cloud-native applications.
- Experience with Kubernetes, containerized environments, and Microsoft Azure or another major cloud platform.
- Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
- Understanding of software architecture, API design, performance optimization, scalable systems, OAuth2, JWT, and role-based access control.
- Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, code reviews, and solving complex technical problems independently.
Nice to have
- Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka or Azure Event Hubs.
