Senior Software Engineer (Billing & AI)

Location: Hybrid in Menlo Park, California, or Bellevue, Washington, United States

Salary: $200,000–$287,500 annually

What you will do

• Own medium-sized billing platform projects from design through launch and operation, while contributing to larger multi-team initiatives.
• Build federated distributed systems for usage metering, rating, invoicing, contracts, payments, threshold billing, fraud, and reporting.
• Shape billing and pricing strategies for Cortex AI, Snowflake Intelligence, agent workflows, token-based inference, and AI subscriptions.
• Use AI tools in development, code review, debugging, and on-call triage.
• Own reliability and correctness through monitoring, alerting, observability, on-call support, and systemic production fixes.
• Partner with Product, Finance, Legal, Growth, GTM Systems, Trust, and engineering teams to build reliable and auditable systems.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience building and supporting large-scale production distributed systems.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, including consistency, fault tolerance, idempotency, exactly-once processing, queueing, and stream or batch data pipelines.
• Strong database and data modeling skills, including SQL, schema design, performance tuning, and large-scale data operations.
• Proficiency in one or more of Java, Scala, Python, or Go, plus testing, observability, CI/CD, and incremental rollout practices.
• Experience independently delivering projects, owning reliability, participating in on-call, debugging production issues, and collaborating across engineering and business functions.

Nice to have

• Experience with billing, payments, metering, revenue, financial systems, fraud detection, abuse mitigation, or trust and safety in SaaS or cloud products.
• Experience designing pricing models for AI or ML products, including inference, fine-tuning, or agentic workloads.
• Experience with Snowflake or comparable cloud data platforms, including Snowpark, Streams/Tasks, Iceberg, Streamlit, or Cortex.
• Contributions to AI developer-productivity tooling, agentic skills, or Cortex Code workflows.
