Engineer 2 - Process Development (Biotechnology)

Location: San Diego, California, United States; onsite manufacturing and laboratory role

Salary: $82,500–$123,700 annual base salary, plus eligible bonus, commission, and equity programs.

What you will do

• Develop, improve, scale, validate, and transfer consumables manufacturing processes for sequencing and array products.
• Design and execute controlled experiments and DOEs for particle characterization, particle formulation, yield, quality, and process optimization.
• Perform plate-based assays and molecular testing, including PCR, real-time PCR, DNA sequencing, and sequencing analysis.
• Define technical requirements for manufacturing processes and production equipment, and support manufacturing builds.
• Author procedures and work instructions, train production operators, and support GMP manufacturing.
• Troubleshoot production issues related to yield, quality, and throughput while making technical recommendations.

Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
• 2–5 years of relevant experience in production support, process definition and development, scale-up, improvement, or validation.
• Strong knowledge of molecular biology and biochemistry principles and techniques.
• Hands-on laboratory experience with organic synthesis and materials synthesis techniques.
• Ability to work with surface chemistry, protein or oligo characterization, nanoparticles, and molecular testing methods.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills; strict adherence to laboratory cleanliness and chemical disposal protocols.

Nice to have

• Experience in medical devices, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, or high-volume consumables manufacturing.
• Experience with statistics, Statistical Process Control, DOE, Lean Six Sigma, product development, or project management.
