TL;DR
Structures Analysis Engineer, Launch Vehicle Structure (m/f/d) (Aerospace Structures/FEM): Analyzing and validating primary and secondary launch vehicle structures, mainly CFRP components, from concept through qualification with an accent on stress analysis, finite element modeling, load-case definition, and manufacturing non-conformities. Focus on identifying failure mechanisms, optimizing structural designs, developing test plans, and improving verification standards and toolchains.
Location: Parsdorf, Bavaria, Germany
Company
develops launch vehicles for sustainable and cost-effective access to space, serving small and medium-sized satellites and constellations in Low Earth Orbit.
What you will do
- Perform detailed stress analysis of aerospace structures and components using hand calculations and finite element methods, primarily for CFRP structures.
- Define load cases, including thermal and quasi-static loads, and identify failure scenarios and load paths.
- Collaborate with design engineers to review and optimize primary and secondary launch vehicle structures.
- Analyze manufacturing non-conformities and provide technically viable solutions.
- Develop test plans, support physical component testing, and verify sizing assumptions and hardware qualification.
- Prepare stress analysis documentation and improve structural verification standards and toolchains.
Requirements
- Degree in engineering, aerospace, mechanical engineering, computational mechanics, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience analyzing aerospace structures.
- Strong knowledge of classical hand calculations and advanced finite element modeling using tools such as HyperMesh, OptiStruct, and Nastran.
- Good engineering intuition regarding load paths and failure mechanisms, with the ability to work independently under moderate guidance.
- Strong collaboration and teamwork skills, including cross-functional interaction.
- Fluent English.
Nice to have
- Space-sector experience, preferably in a launch vehicle development program.
- CAD experience, preferably with Siemens NX.
- Understanding of composite behavior across a wide temperature range and experience with material qualification or composite manufacturing.
- Experience with carbon-fiber winding and draping, CFRP quality standards, specifications, and procedures.
- German language skills.
Culture & Benefits
- Employee participation through a virtual company share program.
- 30 days of vacation and a company pension plan with a 20% employer contribution after the probation period.
- Subsidized lunches and a fully financed Deutschlandticket.
- Rental workwear with laundry service and sponsored sports club membership.
- Individual learning allowance after the probation period and childcare allowance for non-school-age children.
