TL;DR
Design Engineer (Hydraulics) (Drivetrain Components): Designing and developing tube and pump-and-valve components for transmissions and axles with an accent on 3D modeling, FEA, design verification, and supplier development. Focus on solving complex drivetrain design challenges, leading component validation, and coordinating global cross-functional teams through production.
Location: Wuxi, Jiangsu, China; onsite role with approximately 25% travel and global team night meetings

What you will do
- Lead the design of drivetrain tubes and pump-and-valve components for transmissions and axles.
- Collect customer requirements, create 3D models and 2D drawings, perform FEA, and complete design verification.
- Lead component development, supplier assessment, sourcing reviews, APQP, validation, and PPAP reviews.
- Support drivetrain component localization, manufacturing development, cost reduction, NPI, and CPI initiatives.
- Conduct field follow-up, teardown investigations, failure analysis, and engineering improvements.
- Coordinate with system engineering, NPI, purchasing, quality, manufacturing, supply chain, and suppliers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Hydraulics, Fluid Mechanics, Material Science, or a related field.
- Experience with product design and development for oil systems, transmissions, axles, tubes, and pump-and-valve components.
- Knowledge of CAD and engineering analysis tools, including Creo and Creo Simulate for FEA.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as forging, machining, heat treatment, and inspection.
- Analytical thinking, technical problem-solving, communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Fluent English in reading, listening, writing, and speaking; willingness to participate in global team night meetings and travel approximately 25% based on project needs.
Nice to have
- Mechanical and hydraulic design experience in construction, mining, energy, or transportation machinery.
- Drivetrain system and component design or manufacturing experience.
- Knowledge of GD&T, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, quality management, project management, and risk management.
- Strong presentation skills and knowledge of torque converters, transmissions, and axles.
