TL;DR
Energy Trading Analyst (BESS): Supporting the development and operation of Mosaic, an algorithmic bidding and optimization platform for battery energy storage systems in Japan’s electricity markets, with an accent on market operations, customer trading performance, and product localization. Focus on analyzing bidding and dispatch outcomes, advising customers on market interventions, and translating Japanese market requirements into product and service improvements.
Location: Tokyo, Japan; hybrid working arrangements are supported

What you will do
- Provide subject-matter expertise on Japanese electricity market rules, systems, bidding, dispatch, settlement, and regulatory developments.
- Identify customer needs and pain points and help Product Management and Data Science scope new Mosaic modules and functionality.
- Support live BESS customers by understanding their commercial objectives and helping them use Mosaic effectively.
- Monitor Mosaic-bid assets, review trading outcomes, identify issues, and communicate lessons learned and successes.
- Advise customers on market conditions, algorithmic bid overrides, and effective trading strategies.
- Support sales engineering by explaining market dynamics and ’s technical service offering.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in the Japanese electricity markets, ideally with an aggregator or BESS operator.
- Experience with physical electricity trading, electric and balancing markets, bidding, dispatch, settlement, and interaction with TSOs.
- Familiarity with EMS and AC/RA systems used to manage bidding and dispatch.
- Experience understanding the operational challenges of BESS in Japan’s electricity market.
- Strong analytical skills, including handling large datasets and communicating actionable insights to diverse stakeholders.
- Business fluency in Japanese and at least moderate proficiency in English are required.

- Experience at an aggregator or BESS operator.
- Passion for BESS, electricity markets, and Japan’s energy transition.
