Database Engineer - Forward Deployed (AWS)

What you will do

• Lead technical pre-sales engagements, executive conversations, workshops, and proof-of-concepts with clients and sales teams.
• Architect and deliver database migration strategies, including re-hosting to EC2, re-platforming to RDS, refactoring to Aurora PostgreSQL, MySQL, and DynamoDB, and migrating Oracle or Exadata workloads to ODB@AWS.
• Identify repeatable customer patterns and create scalable architectural IP, including GenAI-enabled database migration accelerators.
• Build business cases and translate complex technical propositions into clear solutions for clients and sales teams.
• Influence senior technical and business stakeholders on data modernization strategy.
• Create enablement assets, mechanisms, and documentation while collaborating with engineering, product, and data teams in an asynchronous-first environment.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience with database migration and modernization projects, preferably using AWS data services such as RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, DMS, and SCT.
• Deep proficiency in one or more relational database platforms: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server.
• Experience with schema design, query optimization, replication, data pipelines, ETL/ELT workflows, and large-scale integration patterns.
• Knowledge of AWS infrastructure fundamentals, including EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, and database compute and storage considerations.
• Experience leading client-facing pre-sales engagements and proof-of-concepts from scoping through presentation to senior stakeholders.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience working in distributed, asynchronous-first teams.

Nice to have

• Oracle or Exadata migration experience, including assessment, schema conversion, and cutover planning.
• Experience with NoSQL platforms such as DynamoDB, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Familiarity with GenAI-assisted migration tools, LLM-powered schema translation, or AI-driven data quality workflows.
• AWS certifications or experience with data lakehouse architectures, Apache Iceberg, Glue, or Athena.
• Background in consulting, professional services, solutions engineering, or open-source data tooling.
