TL;DR
Nuclear Operations Engineer (Advanced Nuclear Energy): Designing and executing structured test programs for reactor components, control systems, and integrated plant operations with an accent on experimental methods, complex data analysis, and plant safety. Focus on conducting highly instrumented reactor tests, evaluating fuel and system performance, and developing engineering conclusions that guide design evolution and commissioning.

Location: Orangeville, Utah, United States; willingness to relocate to Orangeville, UT is required.

What you will do

  • Design engineering test plans for first-of-a-kind reactor systems, subsystems, and control algorithms.
  • Define experimental conditions, analytical models, acceptance criteria, and evaluation methods.
  • Conduct highly instrumented reactor and component test campaigns with plant operations teams.
  • Analyze thermal, structural, neutronic, and control data, including trends and anomalies.
  • Produce engineering reports, test summaries, procedures, and recommendations for engineering changes.
  • Support safety reviews, commissioning, plant operations, maintenance, and technical interfaces with regulators and reviewers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nuclear, mechanical, chemical, or electrical engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • Experience with experimental test design, instrumentation, complex system characterization, and engineering analysis.
  • Ability to interpret test data and produce engineering-level conclusions.
  • Experience developing technical reports, test plans, or engineering analyses.
  • Ability to collaborate across engineering, safety analysis, operations, materials science, and skilled trades teams.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or PhD in engineering or physics.
  • Experience with nuclear systems, reactor physics, high-temperature process systems, test reactors, DOE laboratories, or advanced R&D facilities.
  • Familiarity with TRISO fuel behavior, thermal hydraulics, or control theory.
  • Hands-on experience with complex experiments or commissioning activities.
