Greenhouse and Field Research Assistant

Location: hirify.global Vancouver Campus, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Salary: CAD 5,538.94–6,497.44 per month

What you will do

• Manage technical activities and record keeping at the Totem Field Station and South Campus greenhouse.
• Support plant cultivation, irrigation, fertilization, pest monitoring, biological and chemical pest control, and environmental-stress remediation.
• Troubleshoot greenhouse climate-control hardware and software for heating, lighting, ventilation, shading, and CO2 enrichment.
• Coordinate research space, equipment, supplies, invoices, project costs, and facility resources.
• Develop greenhouse standard operating procedures, experiment protocols, and safety procedures.
• Supervise and train work-learn, volunteer, graduate, and undergraduate students and provide technical guidance to facility users.

Requirements

• Relevant university degree or technical program and at least four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid British Columbia Pesticide Applicator Certificate required.
• Experience with or interest in plant cultivation and equipment used in greenhouse and field work.
• Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Argus and Priva climate-control software.
• Ability to lead a team and work independently and collaboratively.
