Principal Algorithm Engineer (EO/IR Image Analysis)

Location: Chantilly, Virginia, United States; support travel or off-site work as needed.

Base pay range: $259,000–$370,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Develop, optimize, and validate EO/IR image-processing chains for real-time deployment on space-based sensor payloads.
• Build optical-sensor modeling and simulation frameworks and synthesize mission imagery for machine-learning training and algorithm validation.
• Apply classical and deep-learning computer-vision methods to detect and track low-SNR objects in EO/IR imagery.
• Transition image-processing algorithms into high-performance real-time implementations with software and firmware teams.
• Maintain and improve deployed algorithms, troubleshoot fielded systems, and assess performance using large EO/IR datasets.
• Document and present technical results to multidisciplinary teams, technical stakeholders, and government customers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of experience, master’s degree with 8+ years, or Ph.D. with 5+ years in a relevant technical discipline and demonstrated image-processing or EO/IR experience.
• Strong experience designing, implementing, testing, and optimizing image-processing and computer-vision algorithms for EO/IR sensors.
• Experience with image stabilization and registration, 3-D multi-view camera modeling, pose reconstruction, object detection and tracking, and background suppression.
• Proficiency in Python, strong communication skills, and experience with image-system modeling and simulation.
• U.S. citizenship is required, and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance is required.

Nice to have

• Strong mathematics background, especially linear algebra, and experience with deep-learning computer vision.
• Experience with space-based imaging systems and EO/IR sensor calibration.
• Proficiency in C/C++ and experience across the full product-development lifecycle.
• Technical or functional leadership experience and an existing TS/SCI clearance.
