Senior Software Engineer - Context and Semantics (AI)

Location: Pleasanton, California, USA; hybrid Flex Work with at least 50% of each quarter spent in the office or in the field

Annual base salary: $190,100–$285,100 USD for the primary location; additional US locations have a base range of $160,100–$285,100 USD.

What you will do

• Architect, build, and deploy backend services, APIs, and data pipelines for semantic and context layers powering AI agents.
• Design and optimize enterprise RAG pipelines, including embedding generation, intelligent chunking, and vector database integration.
• Build distributed query execution and federation layers using technologies such as Trino to connect transactional and analytical data stores.
• Develop dynamic context and memory workflows with LlamaIndex, LangChain, GraphRAG, or similar orchestration frameworks.
• Implement privacy, tenant isolation, RBAC, and data governance controls throughout retrieval and context systems.
• Lead technical design and code reviews, mentor engineers, and establish engineering practices for a new 0-to-1 product area.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience in backend architecture, data engineering, or distributed systems.
• 5+ years of hands-on programming experience with Java, Python, Scala, or Go.
• 1+ years of production experience building LLM applications, RAG pipelines, vector search systems, or knowledge graphs.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• Experience with distributed SQL query engines, scalable REST/gRPC APIs, microservices, embedding models, and enterprise security for sensitive regulated data.
• Hybrid work requires at least 50% of each quarter in the office or in the field in the USA.

Nice to have

• Experience with the hirify.global platform or enterprise SaaS architectures.
• Experience with Trino, Presto, Spark, LangChain, LlamaIndex, or Semantic Kernel.
