TL;DR
Senior Space Avionics Systems Engineer (Avionics/Spacecraft Systems): Designing, integrating, and testing avionics systems for Varda’s Winnebago spacecraft with an accent on electrical architecture, fault mitigation, and launch and reentry verification. Focus on building hardware-in-the-loop testbeds, supporting mission operations, and resolving complex vehicle integration and system-health challenges.

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States

Salary: $140,333–$179,314 per year, plus potential stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

What you will do

  • Define avionics project scopes and requirements with cross-functional engineering teams, guiding systems from concept through production.
  • Develop electrical architectures, system diagrams, and power, telemetry, channel-count, size, and mass budgets.
  • Analyze system faults and risks, create mitigation plans, and support FDIR and operational workarounds.
  • Plan and conduct verification activities on flight and hardware-in-the-loop systems for launch, space operations, and reentry.
  • Support mission operations as an avionics specialist or system operator and lead integrated systems investigations.
  • Design and operate HITL testbeds, avionics ground infrastructure, test racks, and R&D equipment while improving test automation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation.
  • Proficiency in programming and debugging with Python.
  • Experience with power supplies, modular DAQ systems, RTD and 4–20 mA devices, and general test equipment.
  • Experience with vehicle electrical systems, system-level testing, configuration control, or HITL testbeds.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person for access to export-controlled technology.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with Unix environments and command-line utilities.
  • Experience developing test cases and test equipment for vehicle operating conditions.
  • Strong project or program management skills.
  • Background in avionics hardware, FPGA engineering, electronics testing, or electrical systems engineering.
