Spacecraft Systems Engineer, Flight Safety

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. U.S. work authorization and U.S. person status are required for access to export-controlled technology.

Salary: $105,000–$139,466 per year for Engineer I; $119,543–$152,749 per year for Engineer II. Additional incentives may include stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

What you will do

• Perform mission-level flight safety analyses, including failure-mode trajectory modeling and debris field containment.
• Develop technical regulatory strategies, Methods of Compliance, and safety cases for FAA launch and reentry authorizations.
• Complete vehicle-level functional hazard analyses and failure mode and effects analyses.
• Serve as the Flight Safety responsible engineer during mission rehearsals and live recovery operations.
• Establish technical safety limits and mission rules for real-time on-console operations.
• Prepare vehicle-level deliverables for regulatory organizations supporting reentry licenses and authorizations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, systems engineering, or a related field.
• Ownership and execution of a complex engineering project from cradle to grave.
• Strong experience with risk management methodologies and tools, including FMEA, FHA, and Fault Tree Analysis.
• Experience integrating interdisciplinary systems in the aerospace industry.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to influence cross-functional teams and present to executives, customers, and regulators.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person for export-controlled technology access.

Nice to have

• Experience with FAA Part 450, expected casualty modeling, trajectory dispersion, or debris analysis.
• Experience with safety-critical mission operations in aviation or space applications.
• Experience with FCC Part 25 or Part 5 licensing for satellite and reentry communications.
• Experience applying lean quality approaches without compromising safety or reliability.
