Senior Image Scientist (PIR)

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia, United States. The role also supports CONUS and OCONUS test-range activities.

Salary: $170,000–$190,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Develop, refine, and validate Persistent Infrared collection requirements, intelligence needs, observables, and collection success criteria.
• Plan and support operational and R&D collections, including feasibility assessments, tasking coordination, coverage analysis, test-event planning, and post-collection evaluation.
• Perform Phase 1–3 exploitation and quantitative analysis of laboratory, field, test-range, and operational data.
• Build workflows for calibration, data conditioning, quality control, visualization, uncertainty characterization, and technical reporting.
• Develop and evaluate algorithms, models, scripts, databases, and data-processing pipelines for collection planning, signature analysis, and intelligence production.
• Produce technical assessments and briefings, support customer engagements, integrate multi-INT data, and transition R&D capabilities into operational environments.

Requirements

• Active Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a SCI clearance.
• 8+ years of directly relevant experience in PIR, technical intelligence, collection operations, data production, exploitation, or capability development.
• Experience leading collection campaigns, R&D programs, technical analyses, intelligence-production efforts, test events, or cross-organizational working groups.
• Ability to identify intelligence and capability gaps, develop executable technical plans, defend analytical conclusions, and communicate uncertainty to decision-makers.
• Experience mentoring analysts or scientists and improving team tradecraft.
• A degree is preferred; substantial relevant Intelligence Community, military, scientific, engineering, or operational experience may substitute.

Nice to have

• Radiometry, infrared phenomenology, multispectral or hyperspectral imagery, and EO/IR instrumentation experience.
• Experience with temporal analysis, signal processing, image processing, statistical inference, detection theory, machine learning, modeling and simulation, or data fusion.
• Experience building reproducible pipelines with automated quality checks, metadata handling, version control, and traceable analytical outputs.
• Experience supporting government laboratories, acquisition organizations, test and evaluation organizations, operational units, or Intelligence Community organizations.
• Graduate education, published technical work, military or intelligence-analysis training, or recognized subject-matter expertise.
