Member of Technical Staff (AI Safety)

Location: San Francisco, United States; on-site

Base salary: $250,000–$450,000 per year, plus a performance bonus and equity grant.

What you will do

• Architect and execute research focused on long-horizon tasks, simulation, and foundational AI capabilities.
• Embed AI safety principles into company workflows and products.
• Advance research and industry discussion around AI post-training safety.
• Identify and build tooling that supports safety goals.
• Develop and operate large-scale agent systems, including orchestration frameworks, tool APIs, distributed execution, observability, and logging infrastructure.
• Ship research into production and live systems, including advanced post-training, distillation, high-stakes evaluation, and product features.

Requirements

• PhD in a related field such as computer science, machine learning, or natural language processing is preferred.
• World-class research publication record in venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, or ICLR is preferred.
• Proven ability to master complex fields and productize research.
• Experience shipping research directly to production and live systems.
• Experience with advanced post-training, distillation, high-stakes evaluation, and large-scale benchmarking.
• Strategic understanding of the societal and safety impacts of deploying general-purpose AI systems.

• Experience advising on or shaping governmental policy related to AI safety and governance.
