Assistant Underwriter (Commercial Insurance)

Location: Leeds, UK — hybrid working with 3 days in the office and 2 days from home

What you will do

• Underwrite commercial renewal business within delegated authority limits.
• Manage a high-volume portfolio of renewals and mid-term adjustments.
• Review risks, negotiate terms, and support retention, cross-sell, and upsell opportunities.
• Deliver an excellent service experience and build effective relationships with brokers and internal partners.
• Monitor broker activity, manage workflow queues, and support service performance improvements.
• Collaborate with technical underwriting teams and contribute to projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Commercial insurance experience.
• At least 6 months of underwriting or relevant insurance experience.
• Strong organisational, time management, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong IT and Microsoft Office skills.

Nice to have

• Acturis experience or experience working across multiple underwriting platforms.
• Renewals underwriting experience.
• Exposure to charity, social welfare, or not-for-profit risks.
• Progress towards CII qualifications.
