Senior Systems Administrator/Engineer

Location: Rockville, Maryland, with a hybrid work environment and defined in-person presence requirements. Work may also be performed at listed hirify.global locations in the United States.

Salary: $112,300–$202,500 annually for work performed in Rockville, MD.

What you will do

• Design, implement, customize, maintain, and administer operating systems and system software in production data centers.
• Monitor system performance and implement monitoring tools and approaches to sustain and improve reliability, availability, and serviceability.
• Recommend operating system, hardware, software, security, and infrastructure enhancements, updates, and patches.
• Plan, document, and execute tests, scripts, equipment analysis, disaster recovery, business continuity, and SOX activities.
• Perform field-level hardware repairs and upgrades, manage vendor relationships and related budgets, and report operational metrics.
• Lead process improvement and defect resolution efforts while mentoring and supervising junior staff on project-level tasks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline with at least five years of related experience, or equivalent training and work experience.
• Senior-level systems administration experience in a production data center environment.
• Knowledge of at least one operating system, one contemporary scripting language, monitoring and diagnostic tools, and communication and network technologies.
• Experience with operational practices such as metrics reporting, change management, incident management, and problem management.
• Strong written and verbal technical communication skills, organization, prioritization, and the ability to learn new skills rapidly.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment with defined in-person attendance, occasional travel, extended hours, and rotational on-call duties.

Nice to have

• ITIL or ISO 9000 framework experience or certification.
• Experience mentoring staff and developing effective cross-functional working relationships.
