Senior / Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Real-Money Gaming)

Location: Hybrid in the San Francisco Bay Area or New York City, United States

Salary: $180,000–$300,000 per year, plus equity and bonus

What you will do

• Build and own core systems for contests, entries, pricing, market data, settlement, grading, wallets, ledgers, eligibility, and compliance.
• Design reconciliation, auditability, and settlement logic for real-money transactions.
• Handle continuously changing prices and positions, pre-game entry surges, concurrent writes, and settlement across full game slates.
• Partner with risk and trading teams on exposure management and internal tooling.
• Integrate projection, market, and payments providers while designing for third-party failures.
• Ship end-to-end features with designers and mobile and web engineers; Staff Engineers also own architecture and raise engineering standards through design and code review.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience; Staff-level candidates need 8+ years and experience owning system architecture at scale.
• Experience building and operating consumer products used by millions of people.
• End-to-end product delivery experience, beyond infrastructure work.
• Experience with payments, trading, marketplaces, ledgers, real-money gaming, or similarly high-correctness systems.
• Strong distributed-systems knowledge, including data modeling, caching, queues, real-time updates, and concurrent writes.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language such as Elixir, Go, Java, Python, Rust, or Node; must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area or New York City and work hybrid.

• Experience with daily fantasy sports, sportsbooks, or prediction markets.
• Strong interest in sports and opinions about sports gaming products.
