Technical Lead Manager, Pullover Maneuvers (Autonomous Driving)

Location: On site in Mountain View, California or San Francisco, California

Salary: $251,000–$310,000 USD annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual bonus, equity incentive plan, and company benefits.

Waymo develops autonomous driving technology and operates a fully autonomous ride-hail service powered by the Waymo Driver.

What you will do

• Design and implement horizontal software solutions for pick-up and drop-off driving behaviors.
• Build quantitative evaluation techniques and scalable workflows for measuring on-road performance.
• Develop foundational frameworks that advance the Waymo Driver's capabilities.
• Collaborate with Product, Onboard, Technical Lead, and Technical Lead Manager partners.
• Contribute directly to solving challenging long-tail autonomous driving situations.
• Mentor junior engineers on the team.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related field at the PhD, master's, or bachelor's level.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience with complex systems.
• Experience building scalable evaluation workflows, metrics for machine learning models, and analyzing large datasets.
• Strong API design skills and experience with data-driven techniques.
• Experience solving design problems spanning multiple components and collaborating across teams.
• At least two years of management experience.

Nice to have

• Autonomous vehicle or robotics experience.
• Experience deploying machine learning models in production systems.
• Coding proficiency in C++, Python, and SQL.
