Senior Backend Developer (Elixir)

Location: Remote or hybrid across Amsterdam, the Cologne area, and Poland. Work from anywhere is available for up to 4 weeks per year.

Salary: €69,000–€85,000 per year based on the Netherlands salary range; ranges may vary by employment location.

What you will do

• Build and improve reliable, scalable backend solutions for hirify.global Recruitee, the company’s core Applicant Tracking System.
• Develop new capabilities and modernize the existing codebase to improve performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Design and deliver well-tested, maintainable features that balance technical quality with customer and business needs.
• Investigate and resolve bugs and technical issues to maintain a stable customer experience.
• Contribute to technical discussions, system design, architectural decisions, code reviews, and pair programming.
• Collaborate with Backend and Frontend Engineers, Design, QA, and DevOps to solve complex problems and deliver product improvements.

Requirements

• Commercial experience with Elixir, or strong backend development experience with Ruby on Rails, Python, Java, or PHP combined with motivation to learn Elixir.
• Experience designing and building scalable applications, with a solid understanding of databases, preferably PostgreSQL.
• General knowledge of Elasticsearch and RabbitMQ.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, with a pragmatic approach to maintaining and improving existing applications.
• Strong focus on quality and reliability, plus a product mindset and willingness to participate in technical discussions and knowledge sharing.
• Fluent English required.

Nice to have

• Experience with messaging systems at scale, such as transactional email or push notifications.
• Polish language skills.
