Backend Engineer (Node.js)

Location: Remote from Poland; CET hours preferred

Compensation: €6,000–€6,700 gross per month

Fundraise Up is a global fundraising platform that helps nonprofit organizations process donations through checkout experiences, widgets, portals, admin tools, and analytics applications.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Develop product features from concept through deployment in collaboration with product managers and frontend engineers.
• Own backend architecture and make decisions that improve performance, reliability, security, and scalability.
• Build and optimize distributed systems handling millions of donation-related events.
• Write unit tests, review code, refactor legacy systems, and drive engineering improvements.
• Mentor engineers and share expertise across the distributed product team.

Requirements

• 7+ years of backend development experience, preferably in a product-driven environment.
• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js, Koa or NestJS, and advanced TypeScript.
• Experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with event-driven architecture using Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Bull/Redis.
• Hands-on experience with ClickHouse or similar analytics databases and Elasticsearch.
• Comfort working within a Russian-speaking team. Strong system design, clean architecture, performance optimization, ownership, and communication skills are required.

• Experience working in a remote-first, globally distributed team.
• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or similar observability tools.
• Interest in nonprofit technology and a hypothesis-driven approach.
• Experience communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
