Fintech Principal Data Engineer

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; onsite

Base pay: $245,000–$331,500 per year, with potential bonus, equity rewards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Translate fintech product and consumer requirements into scalable data architecture.
• Design canonical models for transactional, profile, and cross-domain fintech data.
• Build durable cross-domain data products, semantic views, contract tooling, certification infrastructure, and self-serve publishing paths.
• Contribute to event design, correlation IDs, data contracts, and application changes across product microservices.
• Develop financial-domain ontologies that enable AI agents to reason over certified business meaning.
• Evaluate modern data-serving technologies, including HTAP, online OLAP, and on-read materialization, with SOX-grade consistency and lineage.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in data engineering or data architecture with hands-on ownership of large-scale production systems.
• Deep experience in canonical and domain data modeling, schema design, and establishing sources of truth across multiple producers.
• Strong distributed-systems foundations, including Kafka, CDC, microservice data patterns, HTAP, online OLAP, lakehouse technologies, and SQL.
• Experience with SOX or equivalent controls, data lineage, auditability, and regulated environments.
• Ability to influence without authority and communicate effectively with engineers, executives, product, analytics, risk, and compliance stakeholders.
• Must work onsite in Mountain View, California.

Nice to have

• Fintech or payments domain experience.
• Knowledge of knowledge graphs or ontologies, including FIBO.
• Experience enabling AI or agentic data consumption.
• Python or Java experience.
