Community Relations Intern (Energy)

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota, with in-person commuting under a hybrid work policy and travel throughout Minnesota.

Salary: $18.20–$24.50 per hour

What you will do

• Support stakeholder engagement and relationship management across Minnesota communities.
• Maintain contact databases covering local governments, tribal nations, schools, economic development organizations, and community groups.
• Coordinate meetings, outreach events, facility tours, stakeholder briefings, and local government engagements.
• Research municipalities, public policy, economic development opportunities, legislative issues, and community trends.
• Prepare briefing materials, presentations, agendas, stakeholder profiles, and follow-up documentation.
• Track permits, franchise agreements, community projects, investments, and territory initiatives.

Requirements

• Current junior-level or higher student enrolled in an accredited college or university.
• Pursuing a degree in public administration, political science, public policy, communications, community development, economic development, urban and regional planning, public relations, business, government relations, nonprofit management, journalism, sociology, or marketing.
• Able to work in person at the designated location under the hybrid work policy and travel throughout Minnesota.
• Available to work full-time during the summer, up to 40 hours per week.
• Valid driver's license and ability to attend meetings, events, facility tours, conferences, and stakeholder engagements across Minnesota.
• Strong written and verbal communication, research, organization, project coordination, and deadline-management skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in government, community engagement, public affairs, communications, customer service, or project coordination.
• Experience with stakeholder databases, CRM systems, presentations, reports, or briefing materials.
• Knowledge of local government, public policy, utilities, economic development, or community planning.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
