Critical Utilities Lead Engineer (Life Sciences)

What you will do

• Lead the planning and design of clean and critical utility systems for life sciences manufacturing facilities from early planning through construction support.
• Develop strategies for purified water, water for injection, clean steam, clean compressed air, process gases, process waste, biowaste, and related distribution systems.
• Coordinate utility capacity, quality, redundancy, and operational requirements with process equipment and manufacturing operations.
• Lead client discussions on system performance, risk mitigation, redundancy, and lifecycle considerations.
• Coordinate mechanical, electrical, architectural, process, and construction teams to integrate utilities with facilities and equipment layouts.
• Review technical documentation and mentor junior engineers while contributing to design standards and best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 10–20+ years of experience designing critical and clean utility systems for life sciences, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other regulated production facilities.
• Demonstrated experience leading utility systems that directly support manufacturing processes, including generation, storage, distribution, monitoring, and redundancy.
• Working knowledge of GMP/GxP, FDA expectations, ISPE Baseline Guides, ASME, and applicable regulations.
• Experience coordinating utilities with process equipment, automation, electrical systems, and building infrastructure; familiarity with BIM-based workflows.
• Strong communication and multidisciplinary collaboration skills. Professional Engineer licensure is preferred but not required.

Nice to have

• Experience in design-build or fast-track project delivery environments.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
