Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Engineer (AI/ML)

Location: United States. Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. and eligible to obtain a USPTO Public Trust.

Salary: $180,000–$190,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Design, build, and deploy production AI and machine learning solutions for the USPTO P-TACTS program.
• Develop applications using large language models, retrieval augmented generation, and vector databases.
• Deploy and scale machine learning workloads on Databricks and AWS cloud environments.
• Translate mission needs into maintainable applications in collaboration with government stakeholders and technical teams.
• Develop generative and multimodal AI capabilities for documents and images, including OCR, layout analysis, and information extraction.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of applied AI and machine learning engineering experience.
• Strong Python skills and hands-on experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, and Keras.
• Practical experience with LLMs, RAG architectures, vector databases, and supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning.
• Experience deploying machine learning workloads on AWS or GCP.
• Authorization to work in the U.S. and eligibility to obtain a USPTO Public Trust.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree with a machine learning focus.
• MLOps experience with pipeline orchestration and full-stack development experience.
• Experience delivering federal government contracts or supporting FISMA Moderate systems.
• Experience with USPTO, PTAB, patent, or intellectual property data.
• Databricks or AWS machine learning certification, or an equivalent cloud certification.
