Staff Data Engineer (ClickHouse)

What you will do

• Own the ClickHouse schema, data model, migrations, and materialized views.
• Design reliable data ingestion, lifecycle, and operational processes as customer data volumes grow.
• Build reports, dashboards, embedded analytics, and self-service reporting in Metabase.
• Diagnose and resolve performance, memory, query, and scalability problems in production.
• Create automations, Claude Code configurations, test harnesses, and documentation that enable safe contributions from engineers and AI tools.
• Set technical standards and make pragmatic depth-versus-breadth decisions for the data area.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in data or analytics engineering, including technical leadership and ownership of a production OLAP database.
• Deep SQL and analytical-engine expertise, including materialized views, partitioning, and OLAP database design.
• Experience fixing performance and memory issues at scale, including out-of-memory errors, read amplification, runaway joins, and complex queries.
• Strong BI and reporting experience with dashboards and user-facing reporting layers.
• Ability to work independently as the accountable owner of a technical area and make depth-versus-breadth trade-offs.
• Must be located in the United States and able to work in the Ohio or EST time zone.

Nice to have

• ClickHouse and Metabase experience.
• Golang and Kubernetes experience.
• Experience with customer enablement, solution engineering, technical writing, demos, or community advocacy.
• Data science or statistics experience.
